Hi folks, I'm no pro mechanic. I'm a tinkerer. I research projects before I tackle them, both online and getting advice from experienced friends then I try my best to tackle the job in a reasonably appropriate manner. If all goes well then I will often publish a video showing what I learned and how I did it. My goal is to help other DIY'ers by sharing the knowledge.

STEP by STEP: Chevy HHR & Cobalt front brakes & rotors
Replacing the front brake pads and rotors. This video should apply to mosts Chevy HHR and Cobalt vehicles but the concept is similar among most vehicles.
Due to shaking issues that I believe are the brake rotors loading up with pad material I have decided to switch to ceramic pads. I am using Autozone Duralast Gold C-Max pads which include a hardware kit, backing on the pads, and caliper pin grease packet.
The tools needed are pretty simple...
- Breaker bar (a large ratchet might work instead)
- 14 mm socket
- 15 mm socket
- 19 mm socket (for the lug nuts)
Optional, but helpful...
- Flat head screwdriver
- Hammer
- 15 mm wrench
- 14 mm wrench
- Torque wrench (to tighten to bolts to manufacturer specifications)
I'm using only basic hand tools and the jack that came with the car for reasons of demonstration. This is not a difficult task to perform.
I am not a professional mechanic, just a guy who works on his own cars at home. The procedures shown in this video may not be correct or safe, always consult a professional and follow manufacturers guidelines and specifications. Use common sense, only you are responsible for your own safety.
Basic Steps:
1. Raise and secure vehicle, remove wheel.
2. Remove the two 14mm caliper bolts, Remove caliper
3. Remove two 15mm caliper bracket bolts, remove bracket
4. Remove rotor, install new rotor
5. Reinstall caliper bracket & two 15mm bolts
6. Install new brake pads
7. Compress piston, reinstall caliper & two 14mm bolts
8. Reinstall wheel, pump brake pedal to seat piston

The Quadrajet to Edelbrock carburetor swap - step by step
Переглядів 626 тис.9 років тому
Replacing my old Rochester Quadrajet with an Edelbrock 1406 carburetor. This is a 1984 Chevy K20 3/4, just a yard truck for plowing my property. The old Quadrajet got gunked up from a broken fuel filter so I decided to try swapping on this old Edelbrock. I had pulled this Edelbrock off an El Camino with a 305 I had about 10 years ago and it has been sitting since. I popped the top and cleaned t...

Review and test cutting thick steel with the Versa Cut 60 plasma cutter from Eastwood. 1/8" up to 1" thick. This is a 220v unit. I have almost no previous plasma cutting experience, just having used a friends 110v cutter for a few minutes at most. I wanted an easy and clean way to cut thick metal in my home machine shop. The oxy-acetylene torches were a pain and the consumables constantly deple...
Dodge Grand Caravan easy fix for coolant loss & smoke from under hood
Переглядів 211 тис.9 років тому
A weak link in the Dodge Grand Caravan, Town and Country, and other models is a plastic "Y pipe" heater hose fitting that begins to leak. The coolant drips directly onto the hot exhaust manifold pipe and vaporizes, resulting in coolant loss. Often times the coolant loss will seem to be a mystery because there are no visual wet spots due to the instant vaporization. It is only when the leak beco...
Garage & workshop heating - concentric venting benefits
Переглядів 113 тис.9 років тому
Concentric venting explained. Benefits include safety and greater efficiency through one wall penetration. Concentric venting allows you to pull combustion air from outside and send exhaust outside through one hole in the wall. The safety factor is that it is using fresh outside air for combustion instead of inside air which might contain combustible vapors depending on what you are working on....
Hacking the Intex Easyset skimmer bracket to fit Ultra Frame pools
Переглядів 23 тис.9 років тому
Ugly buy easy hack to make the Intex Easy Set skimmer bracket fit dependably on the Intex Ultra Frame pools. My Ultra Frame pool came with the sand filter but not a skimmer. The skimmer from our old Easy Set will work but the bracket doesn't fit the Ultra Frame. Attempts to secure it with nylon zip-ties failed. This hack simply involves carefully heating the plastic bracket then bending it to a...

Repairing severe automotive body and frame rust at home.
Переглядів 252 тис.10 років тому
Here I repair severe rust on my car. Rust is almost always much more severe than it looks so I start by pulverizing it until I find real metal. I then cut it back until I reached solid enough material to weld to. A patch was cut from a salvage vehicle and used to rebuild the affected area. The goal here is obviously not beauty, but functionality. The rear door sills are notorious for rusting ou...

My rear trailing arm mount was rusted out. I cut it out and welded in a patch made of heavy gauge steel plate with new high grade bolts. It may be ugly but it is extremely solid. I painted it with rust-oleum professional which has served me better than other products including eastwood chassis black and rust encapsulator. 95 Saturn SW2. Thank you I just replaced my rotors with your help. 😊
I will be changing the headlight on my 2009 HHR all by myself. I'm 72 years old and continue to learn new things. Thank you so much!
Really helped with putting front breaks on our 2010 grand caravan. Now can you put up video on tensioner and keeping serpentine belt on:)
I put new brakes and rotor and calipers 2010 Dodge van and the light comes on and off what should I look for
Man only thing I’m having an issue with is your head mean in the way when you press the tab other than that everything worked well
May wanna adjust them mixture screws
What to do if your caliper piston won't go back in?
Well presented thanks
Great job. Thank you
Your head covered the button you have to push
How have you removed the layer created by the solution? I can see it stickened on the surface. I have an acrylic where I need it to be 100% smooth and transparent but have a similar problem of removing the layer. I would appreciate if you can share your experience.
Very informative and well spoken recording was great no moving around and it’s the best Saturn video that I have ever seen I have had trouble with my 2001 L200 2.2 engine and no site ever has shown step by step and I learned so much in 11 minutes than I have tried to learn the last year and a half two thumbs up and thank you
I need this done how much would something like this cost?
Great instructional ! Correct me if I am wrong and as I was told that you have to bleed the brakes when replacing rotors and pads.
Chem dip is basically Laquer thinner So you can save some Bux if you don't need the basket.
What size are the 2 bolts going into the trailing arm?? Thanks!
Brake brakes wasn't that easy to me I had to rent a tool.not a c clamp
Back brakes I meant
Make sure the gasket/washer comes out with the old bulb, otherwise you’ll go nuts trying to get the new one in! 🙈
Amazing, thanks bro
should gas port the piston while ur at it it seals the top ring and helps a lot ! in most measure .100 from the edge to the inside groove and mark it comes in right behind the ring and pushes the ring out on exhaust stroke sealing it tight
Well if you follow that. You'll have a hard time braking after. Oil on the rotor will messed up the pads. Always clean the rotor on both side with brake cleaner first before putting them on place...
What about the bleeding of the brake fluid lines and all that jazz?
One of the best videos I've seen on repairing my car
Thanks for the part number ...lots of help
Excellent job Thanks
Thanks for the useful info
What grade steel diamond plate did you use?
Thank you, very useful and detailed video. Learned a lot from it!
Excellent work. Thank you for posting.
Excellent work

Excellent work!
Its not a box, its called a can! Lol .
la parte que pusiste al frente va atrás , mal colocada -
If you have trouble getting the bulb out, I used a pair of the small hyper tough (walmart) vice grips and it came right out. I couldn't get channel locks on it but if you have a small enough one might be able to. Me and 2 men tried to screw it out for hours and couldnt get it 😂
Your head was in the way where you removed the light bulb. Totally useless
How did the tv cable for the transmission link up to the edebrock?
Looks good. I'd def spray glue some carpet on mine
I didn’t see you spray the new rotor with brake cleaner to remove any film on the rotor.
I know this is an old video, but the B vent can rust through over time. The connections are also not air tight. And of course, with it being inside a concentric box and having an air intake pipe surrounding it, you'd never even know you had a problem while CO2 is being pushed out (positive pressure system) the hole and coming back into the heated area through the intake. Cat 3 is required for the exhaust pipe in both a horizontal and vertical according to Sterling. And it has to be cat 3 from the heater all the way to the termination cap. Cat 3 is expensive - it added $460 to the installation cost, however it's the only way it would pass code, since code often uses the most restrictive between the local code and the installation manual. If a fire occurred and it was not up to code and wasn't inspected then your insurance company could deny your claim. That's not a risk I was willing to take so I bought the bullet and purchased cat 3. The only way you can use B vent is if you are going vertical and pulling the intake from the garage area. The only thing that doesn't make sense to me and Sterling can't provide a good answer is why is a non concentric separated vent system (exhaust going vertical) and intake coming from outside in a totally separate pipe require cat 3, yet if you pull the intake from the garage space they consider that a cat 1. I mean what's the difference between pulling the intake from the garage space, or 2 ft away from the outside? That makes no sense and maybe there is a reason I don't understand for that.
This really help me alot
….Thanks for showing you take the rotor off…..
The vid was awesome. May I add that while collapsing the caliper is a good time to replace brake fluid. Look at the dark color. It is worn out. If u open the bleed screw while compressing. Bad fluid goes out instead of returning to reservoir. Refill reservoir with new fluid and a. Quick bleed will provide system with fresh brake fluid
The "quick bleed" part you say above is where most people encounter problems. You are correct about the fluid in this video being nasty, but all backyard mechanics should know that to replace the brake fluid the way you mention (and in any manner really) requires a full system (all 4 wheels) bleed after the new fluid is added. For mechanics with car lifts, this is an easy process, but for DIY mechanics it's a pain in the neck to either go wheel-by-wheel (jacking each one at a time) or trying to get all 4 wheels off the ground at once using jacks and stands (dangerous too). Again, I'm not disagreeing with your advice, I just think DIY'ers need to understand how tricky and entire brake system bleed can be.
Heating the surface worked for me pretty clean.
I know you can help me
